THE GREY GHOST OF THE FLATS!

l
Big Bonefish = Lots of Backing!

Welcome to the sweet world of bonefishing!  Bonefish live in many tropical waters around the world.  The best large bonefishing is in the Florida Keys.  The best over all bonefishing is in the Bahamas.  Bones, when hooked, will bolt across the shallow flats like a torpedo.  Sometimes taking as much as 200-300 yds of backing in 15-20 seconds.  UNREAL!!!  They have big eyes and are spooky in their element of clear, shallow water.  Sharks and barracuda are among the bones top predators.  The bones have great eyesight and are a fool for a perfectly presented, well-tied shrimp fly.  This makes the bonefish one of the most sought after sportfish in the world by fly fishermen.

The average size of a Bone in the Florida Keys is 7-8 pounds ( The highest average anywhere in the world)!  The average Bahamas Bonefish can add up to about 3-4 pounds, BUT the Bahamas fishery offers many more shots at fish daily than anywhere else in the world.  This is why I hold my many annual Bonefish Schools in the Bahamas on South Andros, at the Andros South Bonefish Lodge.  This area of the Bahamas is well known for its huge numbers of tailing fish, and larger then normal sized bones. This combo makes it a great habitat to hold my Bonefish Fly Fishing School to ensure that all the customers will have plenty of shots at Bones every day.  Check out my Fly Fishing Schools page for more info.

Bones are much like a gecko.  They will change colors to adapt to their surroundings.  Look at the color of the fish above.  This bone has a dark green back with dark bars to match the large amount of dark green turtle grass that lives on the shallow flats of the Florida Keys.  Huge crabs and snapping shrimp live in these giant, never ending turtle grass flats in the Keys, which is why the Keys average much larger bonefish then anywhere else in the world.  Lots of food = world record bonefish!

If you think you would like to take the bonefish challange, and experience this incredible fishery then go ahead and drop me an email.  I would love to help make your fishing dreams come true.
