Scientific Anglers Mastery Textured Coating
The new Scientific Anglers Chard Slam line was specifcally designed with a number of key features that help make this fly line perfect for all salt water fishing situations.
Featuring the new SA Mastery Textured coating. The outer shape of this coating is much like a dimpled golf ball helping to reduce line contact with the rod guides by the line riding up on the edges of the dimples, along with helping to reduce water friction while picking up line up off the water. This helps anglers to pick up more line off the water quicker and quieter. A very important advantage when salt water fishing, especially on the flats. You can count on this textured design to help shoot line easily and quickly while minimizing dirt build up.
Salt water fly fishing with a heavy fly and/or with a long leader can make casting and slackless presentations difficult to say the least. Especially if there is any wind to contend with. The Chard line is designed with an extra short front taper. This helps the energy to be aggressively transferred into the leader system, helping to roll out long leaders with heavier flies into the wind with ease. Having your leader and fly lay out straight is vital to a successful salt water fly presentation.
Many times in the salt a quick short presentation is needed, especially if visibility is reduced. The Chard line is designed with a slightly over weighted belly helping to load your rod immediately for those quick short presentations. With many salt water fly rods these days designed with super fast tapers this line helps to load those rods quick and efficiently.
Since it’s very difficult to transfer energy from a smaller diameter section of fly line (running line) into a larger diameter section of fly line (belly), it is critical to have a longer rear taper to help transfer that energy smoothly into the belly of the line. As long as your rod tip is connected to some part of the rear taper when casting, the transfer of energy from your rod into the belly of the line will be smooth and efficient. The Chard Grand Slam Line was designed with an extra long (twice as long as most other salt water fly lines on the market) rear taper to help carry and control more fly line in the air when casting, dramatically improving distance and accuracy casting, which is so important in salt water fly fishing.
Shooting line and having some distance in your cast can be helpful when salt water fly fishing. The Chard Line has been designed with a slightly smaller diameter running line helping to increase shootabilty there for adding distance all in one.
More Chard Line Features
Chards Slam line also has the very popular and extremly productive Scientific Anglers AST coating which has been on the market for a long time – but most people don’t know that it actually releases impregnated silicone balls that lubricate the fly line while casting. That’s why the SA cleaning system is nothing but a dry pad – there’s no lubricant. The pad is abrasive - it just rips the dirt off the line and releases the built in silicone allowing the line to lubricate itself.
ADVANCED SHOOTING TECHNOLOGY - AST
Scientific Anglers' patented dry slick technology sets the standards for slickness, Advanced Shooting Technology (AST) Fly Line provides continual line slickness allowing the line to shoot farther as it moves virtually friction-free through the guides. AST fly lines easily shed dirt, algae and other parasitic drag particles allowing them to cast farther, float higher and stay cleaner than traditional lines. As a result, fly lines featuring AST are more durable and last longer
SA ID - Welded Loops - Tropic Core Technology
Chardys line also has the new SA ID on it – the name and weight of the line is stamped on it on both the tip and the rear of the line. There are welded saltwater loops on both ends, and the core is the new Scientific Anglers tropic saltwater core – a stiffer, harder core designed for the tropics to help add stiffness and reduce tangles.”

Exceptionally slick and strong, our welded Streamlined Loops produce smoother casts and easier turnover with a seamless fly-line-to-loop transition making for softer landings and cleaner pickups. The sleek design also maintains buoyancy for improved fly line floatation. They ensure seamless fly line-to-loop transition for softer presentations and cleaner pickups. Streamlined Loops also enable quicker connections between fly line and leaders.
- Less friction for cleaner, faster pickups Low-impact presentations
- Slim profile slides through guides
- Sleek design enhances buoyancy
- Fast, secure connections
Chard Line Diagram
As you can see the Chard Slam Line is multi colored. This feature is great for many reasons. The head of the line is a light blue that is non-invasive making it the perfet color for presenting your fly close to spooky salt water fish. The running line is a brighter high vise yellow that helps anglers to keep a strong visual on the line to help keep slack out.
The section of the line wear both the light blue head and the yellow running line meet makes an area that lets the angler know when they have reached a section of the line were its ideal to pick up line off the water for another cast. This feature helps give anglers confidence during every presentation by letting them know when its best to pick that line up quickly for another presentation. This is vital when salt water fishing.
Available in 7wt through 12wt
