The almighty permit, for years, has earned the utmost respect of every angler that has ever fished for them. Permit have become one of the most prized saltwater game fish ever sought after by Fly anglers! The level of difficulty rises almost as high as the rewarding feeling you get when you have successfully landed one of these glamour’s fish. That’s why I wanted to design a fly line specifically for permit fishing.
You need a long cast, and a delicate, accurate presentation when you have calm conditions, versus shorter casts with a powerful tight loop that will drive a longer leader with a heavy fly, hard into the wind. This line can do it all!
LENGTH OF TAPER
Since permit are known as one of the most weary fish on all of the flats, I have made this line 100ft long for ease of making a long cast when necessary. The hard coating and stiff mono core will help in creating tight loops, and turning over long leaders often used in permit fishing, while cutting down on line tangles when casting or clearing line. Since it is difficult to transfer energy from a smaller diameter line to larger diameter line the running line is larger then normal lines to help transfer the much needed power to the head of the fly line. The long slow back taper helps to evenly disperse the energy all the way through the head. Then, with a small front taper the line unleashes all the power in the cast right away to the leader, and strait to the fly for a full extension of the leader and a beautiful presentation to the fish. This line will be available in sizes 9-11 wt.
WHY I CHOSE THIS COLOR
It is very important to see if you have slack in your fly line while fishing for permit. On the other hand you don’t want the fish to see your line either. The light blue color of this line is great for anglers to see while casting and fishing, while not appearing to bright to spook the fish.
